Time Is Ticking Out
The Mickleover Modelling Day is now just over two days away and I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. After years of procrastination I finally in the last three months have got a model railway that runs, the buildings are progressing well and it is actually starting to look like a model railway.
Enough wagons have been built to give me something to operate with and a selection of locos have been serviced and tested to use this Saturday.
Quite pleased with how Wheal Ponder has progressed. But also, I’m looking forward to getting the layout back home after the weekend and making a start on adding some colour to the scene.
Making this weekend the deadline has been good to get the layout to this stage. However, I’m currently resisting the temptation of setting further deadlines for completion, mainly because we are having a new kitchen in March which will require some time spent on DIY. However, I am keen to see this layout through to completion in a relatively short period of time. Whilst I’m not promising any set dates for taking to exhibitions, this coming May will be the thirtieth anniversary of my teenage self jumping on the bus from my childhood home into the nearby city of Nottingham. Where I went to the AGM of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Assocation at the Old Mechanics Institute and joined up as a member. Would be nice to have completed a layout inside my first thirty years of membership, albeit only just….
If anyone is in the Derby area this coming Saturday, it would be great to see you at Mickleover. The line up looks pretty good for a local group’s modelling day. Mike has got the bacon and cobs ordered and judging by the smell emanating from our kitchen, the cakes smell promising.
