Building Blocks
Continue to make progress in a steady manner with some modeling being done almost every day. Having an hour or so at the modeling desk each evening is proving to be great at unwinding at the end of the day.
Work has progressed on fitting a back scene and fascia board to the layout. Need to produce similar to the f/yard to stop anything from rolling off before they can be painted and considered ready for scenic work to begin. I also need to saw some timber sections for the layout to sit on when on its trestles. Had hoped to get this done by Christmas, but the near fortnight of near freezing conditions has delayed this as it was a bit too cold for doing these jobs in the attic and garage. Although, as my wife has pointed out, it does look like a layout now.
This resulted in attention turning to the main building on the layout, the clay dry. Using various photos of old dries for inspiration, the carcass has been built up out of foam board with plenty of strengthening pieces to give a lightweight but strong structure. A start has been made covering this shell with embossed styrene sheets but there’s still plenty of work to go on this structure. It’ll keep me busy over the festive period should any time to spend at the desk is available.
The clock is speedily ticking down to our Modeling Day at Mickleover, I would like to have the base structure of all the buildings finished by then, even if there’s not a huge amount of colour on the layout, but we will see how productive a January I have.
Wish everyone a Merry Christmas, hope your presents are good and your sprouts are plentiful.
