Sleeping Near The Engines

No model making the last few days. Instead we spent a thoroughly relaxing weekend staying in one of the La’al Ratty’s Pullman Carriages at Ravenglass.

Annabel said she really enjoyed “sleeping near the engines’ and staff on the Ratty were as friendly as ever, happily giving me permission to visit the shed one morning when I introduced myself to the Controller. We had fun riding on the trains, exploring Eskdale and also took a trip over to Windermere where we took the train from Haverthwaite and the MV Teal, built for the LMS in 1936, on the lake.

The 15” gauge really is ideal for children Annabel’s age, I enjoyed the 15” gauge at Fairbourne when the same age. Plus we like a good museum and the one at Ravenglass is a superb example, with plenty to keep Annabel entertained whilst we took in the history.

Some photos from our weekend should anyone need their appetite whetting for a trip to Cumbria.
